Meet The Founder

Open Hands Food Pantry was founded by Tate Akopyan with one simple belief: no family should have to choose between paying their bills and putting food on the table.

After seeing the growing need for accessible food assistance in Phoenix, our founder set out to create more than just a food pantry. The vision was to build a welcoming place where every neighbor is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Today, that vision has grown into Open Hands Food Pantry, a nonprofit dedicated to providing nutritious food, household essentials, and hope to families, seniors, veterans, and individuals experiencing financial hardship. Under our founders leadership, Open Hands has developed strong partnerships with local businesses, schools, churches, volunteers and community organizations to ensure that help reaches those who need it most.

Our founder believes that lasting change happens when communities come together to care for one another. Every food box distributed, every volunteer who serves, and every donor who gives plays a part in strengthening our community.

As Executive Director, our founder continues to lead with integrity, transparency, and a heart for service-working every day to expand access to food, grow community partnerships, and create a place where every person who walks through our doors knows they are valued.

"We believe that a helping hand today can change someone's tomorrow"

Together, we can serve the Valley With Open Hands.
