About the Pantry

Together, we turn generosity into lasting impact.

Who We Are

At Open Hands Food Pantry, we believe no one should have to choose between paying their bills and putting food on the table.

We are a community food pantry serving individuals, families, seniors, veterans, single parents, and hardworking neighbors throughout the Phoenix area who need a helping hand. Our mission is simple: provide nutritious food with dignity, compassion, and hope, while creating a welcoming place where every person feels seen, valued, and respected.

Hunger is closer than many people realize. In Arizona, more than 1 million people-about 1 in 7 residents - experience food insecurity, including nearly 1 in 5 children. While programs like SNAP help many families, they don't stretch far enough to cover an entire month, leaving thousands of households forced to make impossible choices between food, rent, medicine, childcare, and transportation. More than 900,000 Arizonans rely on SNAP benefits, yet many families still need additional support throughout the month.

Thats where Open Hands steps in.

Through generous donation from individuals, businesses, churches, and community partners, we provide nutritoius groceries and essential household items that help families bridge the gap between during difficualt seasons. Whether someone needs temporary assistance or ongoing support, every neighbor who walks through our doors is welcomed with kindness, compassion, and dignity.

We don't just provide food-we provide hope, encouragement, and the reminder that no one has to face hardship alone.

WHY Open Hands

Life can change in an instant.

A lost job. Rising grocery prices. An unexpected medical bill. A fixed income that no longer covers the essentials. These are everyday realities for many Arizona families.

Many of the neighbors we serve are employed, working hard every day, yet still struggle to keep food on the table because wages haven't kept pace with the rising cost of living. Others are seniors living on fixed incomes, veterans, single parents, or families caring for young children while trying to make ends meet.

Open Hands exists because everyone deserves access to healthy food.

When basic needs are met, children can focus in school, seniors can maitain their health, parents can worry less about their next meal, and families can begin to regain stablility. Food is more than nourishment- its the foundation for healthier families and stronger communities.

Every bag of groceries represents more than food. It represents hope, relief, dignity, and a community that cares.

How It Works

We’ve designed our process to be simple, welcoming, and respectful.

Step 1: Complete a Quick Registration

Visitors complete a short intake form so we can better understand household size and ensure we’re serving our community effectively.

Step 2: Check In

When you arrive during pantry hours, our friendly volunteers will check you in and answer any questions you may have.

Step 3: Receive Your Food

Our volunteers carefully prepare grocery bags filled with a variety of nutritious items. Depending on available donations, bags may include:

  • Shelf-stable pantry staples
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Dairy products
  • Meat or protein items
  • Bread and baked goods
  • Frozen foods
  • Toiletries and hygiene items when available

Because our inventory changes daily based on donations, every visit may look a little different—but our commitment to serving each neighbor with dignity never changes.

Step 4: Return When You Need Us

Open Hands serves households up to 12 visits per calendar year, helping families receive consistent support during times of need.
